The most valuable: the most expensive players from last season

One of the main features of the offseason is the transfer market. While the clubs are working to find the best options for reinforcements, you can look at the situation as a whole, and at the same time take stock of the performances of some players. For many of them the last campaign was successful, if not for team results, then for personal ones. The following are the most expensive players from the 2021/22 season.

Arnaud Danjuma (Villarreal; +35 million euros)

A year ago, Danjuma played in the Champions League for Bournemouth. And last season, the 25-year-old forward knocked Juventus and Bayern Munich out of the UEFA Champions League playoffs with Villarreal. The move to Spain has clearly benefited the player. The Dutchman had a shock season: he scored 16 goals in all competitions and snatched the title of Villarreal’s top scorer from Gerard Moreno. As a result, the transfer value of the forward increased by 35 million euros. Danjuma is now valued at 50 million and is already attracting the attention of top clubs.

Darwin Nunez (Liverpool; +€35m)

Nunez received rave reviews throughout the season. There was indeed much to be surprised about: 41 games in all competitions, 34 goals and 4 assists, excellent numbers for the 23-year-old forward. It was clear that he will not stay with Benfica for long. Many clubs wanted the young striker, but he chose Liverpool. The transfer fee was 75 million euros. The situation is similar to that of Joao Felix: the bright season at Benfica, many goals scored, the transition to a top club. We can only hope that the Uruguayan learn the new place faster than the Portuguese.

Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig; €37m)

Nkunku was last season’s opener. The Frenchman was good before but his performance was particularly outstanding last season. The 24-year-old played 49 games in all competitions last season, scoring 32 goals and providing 19 assists. He was the top scorer and assisted his squad. Nkunku was also named Bundesliga Player of the Season. This status added 37 million euros to the transfer value of the player, which now stands at 80 million. The Frenchman was claimed by many clubs, but he extended his contract with the Bulls. It is understandable: it may be dangerous to change something drastically before the World Cup.

Raphael Leau (AC Milan; +45 million euros)

Leão’s first two seasons at AC Milan were not very successful. The 23-year-old winger stepped up last term and helped the Italian side win the league title. The Portuguese played 42 matches in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 12 assists. The transfer fee of the player increased by 45 million euros and reached the mark of 70 million, although the Red-Blacks are valuing him even higher. There are high expectations for Leau. Fernando Santos believes Rafael is the future of the Portuguese national team, and AC Milan have identified the player as untouchable on the transfer market. All that remains is to fulfil his expectations.

Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus; +45m euros)

Vlahovic transferred from Fiorentina to Juventus in January. The transfer sum was 81.5 million euros. The 22-year-old forward rose €45 million during the season and is now valued at €85 million. The Serbian came to the Bianconeri as Serie A’s top scorer and finished the season in 2nd place. In Turin, the player’s scoring efficiency has expectedly decreased since he moved to a new club. On the other hand, 9 goals and 2 assists for half a season is normal. Vlahovic, as well as the whole team, has a lot to strive for.

Luis Diaz (Liverpool; +47 million euros)

The most valuable: the most expensive players from last season
Luis Diaz

Diaz moved to Liverpool from Porto for 47 million euros in January. The footballer blended in rather quickly with Jurgen Klopp’s team. He scored his debut goal in the Premier League already in the second match. The footballer also played well at Porto, and in the “red” team has already managed to play 26 matches, scoring 6 goals and 5 assists. The 25-year-old winger gained 47 million euros during the season. Now his transfer fee is 65 million, and probably this is not the limit. With the departure of Sadio Mane, Diaz is well positioned to move to an even higher level.

Gavi (Barcelona; +60m euros)

Last season was Gavi’s first season in the Barcelona main team. During that time, the transfer value of the 17-year-old midfielder increased from 0 to 60 million euros (youth team players are not valued by experts). The young Spaniard played 46 matches in all competitions, scored two goals and gave six assists. These are good indicators for the central midfielder, although he can also play at winger. Both Xavi Hernandez and Luiz Enrique appreciate Gavi’s potential. The Catalans are doing everything to keep the player and prolong his contract. The Bianconeros should not lose such talents.

Vinicius (Real Madrid; €60m)

Sooner or later Vinicius was bound to reach a decent level. It happened in the 2021/22 season. The 21-year-old winger played 52 games in all competitions last season scoring 22 goals and 20 assists. He also scored the winning goal in the UEFA Champions League final. The young Brazilian had such an impressive season that he immediately went up in price by 60 million euros. Now his transfer fee is 100 million. And this despite the fact that Vinicius is far from reaching his peak form. He has everything to qualify for the Ballon d’Or in just a few years. The main thing is to find stability.
